Uncovered area of modern town is the seat of the Biennale, the Cinema Festival, and art and fun shows. A route recalling traditional celebrations, from the Carnival to the Regata Storica, and enriched with exquisite tastes at the table, from the bacari to the typical city bakeries. Finally, the islands visit: in steamer ship up to the Giudecca; and on two long wheels to the beach coast and the Pellestrina.

History and Art City… Venetia is an impressive laboratory of rich culture, where any contemporary art expression finds its place, and the number of galleries is testimony of this diversity. It is the seat of a renowned University, which animates the city with its students’ activities and movement. Ancient Venetian legacy is the artists visiting the Biennale di Venezia. At Sant’Elena island, the sole example of modernism at this city, you find the seat of different foreign countries pavilions that every two years participate in the artistic review. You can admire the exquisite Biennale Gardens, the Pubblici Gardens, and all the green color of Venetia. From here you can see the whole lagoon. Going by 7 Martiri river you find the San Biagio river, facing the Museo Navale, with its magnificent collection of ancient models of sails and vessels, constructed and launched at Arsenal. This building was the core seat of the Republic from XII century, when this was the departure point of powered ships going to Orient, due to commercial traffic or numerous wars. The entrance portal, with its first Venetian Renaissance work: two marble lions, symbol of Republic della Serenissima triumph reached in the Peloponneso. Going by Schiavoni river, turn right to San Sacaría Church, and continue to Santa Maria Formosa field, whose place is facing the Santa Maria Formosa Church and Querini Stampalia Palace, one of the main seats of Venetian contemporary show, where you can admire, inside, a wide and ancient library, obligated place for university students.
At Formosa street, number 5183, you can find the exquisite wine bar La Mascareta, excellent to taste wine with traditional recipes. San Marco¿ and you find the Goldoni Theater, the main prose theater at city, dedicated to the famous comedy author. A little far away, the Fortuny Palace, Mariano Fortuny’s home, currently a museum, where you can visit his photography, stage-design, painting and creation atelier, in addition to numerous other works from this artist. At ending curve of the Canal Grande, the Grassi Palace, renowned art place and status symbol of Venetian bourgeois richness at the time it was constructed, during the past century became one of the most renowned centers of Venetian exhibition activities. Going to Santo Stefano field, a gracious square, loved by the Venetians, where you find a lot of tourists¿ connecting with the Academia Bridge, single wood structure of Canal Grande. A little far away, an open observation point. Crossing the bridge, you find the Academia Gallery, hosting a complete show of Venetian painting artists from centuries XIV – XVIII. Going to Barbaro area, you passed the San Gregorio Bridge, and there can be interesting to know that the palace has the same name of Eleonora Duse actress, and it was the place where was always the poet Ezra Pound. There, at number 701, the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation, whose name honors the discovering of excellent talent artist, the avant-garde between European and American artists. Visit this foundation to admire the impressive works of artists like Picasso, Mirò, De Chirico, and Jackson Pollok, discovered by Guggenheim, Kandisky and very other ones.
If you would like to visit typical and no-tourism location, go to Vino Vino, renowned wine bar -Woody Allen preferred- near to the La Fenice Theater. There you can taste the best wines and swift meals, enjoying an fixed and exquisite menu, or cold dishes, at competitive prices, very rare in Venetia. Then, you can continue to Disco-bar Casanova, in Lista di Spagna, very near from Santa Lucia Station, to enjoy the fine music rhythm, stretching the night.
The second day we leave the Serenissima, reaching the Lido di Venezia, renowned Venetian beach. You can cross the beach in streamer ship, knowing all San Marco, a real splendid place. This spit of land can be visited leaving the Venetian bridge and canal, continuing the route. You can bike by Santa Maria Elisabetta Place, going to the San Niccolò riverside, reaching the San Niccolò Church. You will pass by wall front and the XVI century fortress Sant¿Andrea, and it is surpassed a red brick and Istria stone bridge. During the second Sunday of May, it is the best observation point of the Sensa Party, celebrating the link between Venetia and the sea. Continuing, you find the Benedictine monastery San Niccolò, with elegant Renaissance cloister. Turning right you reach the Gran Viale Santa Maria Elisabetta, connecting with Lungomare Marconi: with a large file of seaside businesses facing the sea. Continuing, you see the large hotels from century beginning, like the Hotel des Bains, with Thomas Mann work Morte a Venezia, the elegant villages, and at the avenue end, the Cinema Palace where every year, on September, you can admire the Venetian Cinema Show. Continuing you can find the Casinò Palace, loved by risk-games lovers. Biking you can reach Malocco, with wall route built on beginning of XVII century, reinforcing the many coastal kilometers; but you will be compensated with the beautiful lagoon view.
Arriving to the Pellestrina, you can continue on bike. Boarding a streamer ship at Malamocco port. Land on the very thin land strip, immersed in the nature. Apparently Venetia is too far, so you can see a little at horizon. Entering on the island, the favorite place for a long time species of birds, like fratini, fraticelli, cormorani, smergi, and golden ciuffetti svassi. At the coast, three churches between gardens and vineyards, at lagoon coast, you can admire palaces and houses from XVI & XVII centuries, characteristic of island architecture. During the village visit you will think like you are around a canal, like in different island, but you will be at littoral, and at your back, the sea is protecting small gardens cultivation from winds. The red, blue, and yellow houses can be admired immediately, giving a special and a little Surrealistic accent to the landscape. Visit the Sant’Antonio Church, built at beginning of XVII century, and the votive Tempio dell’apparizione, from 1718, with its original octagonal shape and two towers. Near from there, the SS. Vito e Modesto Monastery, abandoned today. Visit to the Lido and the Pellestrina can be done also on horseback, like the Venetian Horse Circle.
At the beach, the dinner, and then you can discover a special place, with casual and welcoming environment, where you eat without a lot of money. It is the Bar Trento, popular inn, with excellent cicheti. At the Lido the evening reserves a quiet atmosphere, viewing completely San Marco. Returning to Venice it is possible you would like to enjoy the very popular discotheque Piccolo Mondo.”
Visiting Venetia you have to visit the San Marco Place, place too visited by tourist groups, whose presence is always provoking an immense emotion, due to its majesty and Orient remembrance monuments in every angle. Thinking in this city on Carnival, masks, époque dressing, and at its end, the BasilicaMondonovo Maschere and Ducal Palace. In these days, you can admire the passed magic periods, when masks and Venetian people undermining every rule, assuming determined behaviors, otherwise censurable. An obligatory Venetian place to discover the masks making procedure is the laboratory of the shop , in Santa Margherita area. Largely traditional craft, where were confectioned the masks for the last Kubrick film. Passing the Orologio Tower and going to famous Venetian bakery with its special production in Carnival time oftypical sweet confections, a tripudio of fritole and galani, excellent Venetians greedy, with Orient taste influence. In Fiubera you can find the seat of Rosa Salva, historic bakery, launched at past century beginning, the other seat is in SS. Giovanni and Paolo place. After a greedy pause, if you like the amaretti, bacoli, zaeti and buranelli, go to Fabbri street Marchini. The wine-gastronomic journey continues with ombre and cicheti, delicious bocconcini… and you can taste the sfiziosi, abundant in the bacari, of whom the town can be considered the capital. Going to the Rialto Bridge, you can visit the Pescheria, in the opposite place, with different bacari to excellent tasting. Visiting the market, you will enjoy a real party of sea colors and odors. Sea legacy is the traditional Venetian party celebrated on the first Sunday of September; it is the Regata Storica, celebrated jointly with the Mostra del Cinema, whose origin is from XIII century: impressive water spectacle with gondola parades and appearing dressed like ambassadors or highs officials of the Serenissima.
The afternoon can be dedicated to discover two islands facing San Marco Place, San Giorgio Maggiore and Giudecca, constituting apparently an ideal continuation, like a sort of water place. Sailing on streamer ship, we arrive first to San Giorgio Maggiore. Complete island is a monument, ant the most representative is the San Giorgio Maggiore church, Palladian monument, which seen from Venice seems floating over the water. You have to see at its inside the painting of Jacopo Tintoretto, San Giorgio that kills the dragon. Leaving the island, we turn the look verse Venice, we are facing the Schiavoni River. We go again in streamer ship, in some minute we reach the Giudecca. The island is part integrating of an urban context accommodating some important monuments. We begin the visit to the Zitelle Church, so-called because during some time it was shelter for poor youngsters. Continue towards the famous Giudecca Church: the Redentore Church, former vow of the 1576 plague, whose project was entrusted to Andrea Palladio; representing one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of the Renaissance. Always bound to the Redentore, it is an of the more traditional parties of the Venetian capital, whose celebrations is typical at this island, when, the night of the third Saturday of July, from the long zatteroni coast you can see the artificial fires. Continuing to Sant¿Eufemia, with attractive view on the Giudecca canal, we can find almost to the end of the Spina Longa, defined by the Venetians as a land strip Stuky Mill, built at XVII century end; an enormous brickwork mole than after the closing of 1954 was not more used, and still today awaiting a new function entrusting.
Returning to the city you can enjoy a Typical Venetian dinner at restaurant Vini da Gigio, very loved location by Venetian people, and the Ca’ D’Oro. Anguilla alla griglia and fegato alla venexiana, excellent dishes to accompanying the best wine. In Cannaregio, you find other very loved location at city: La Bagatela, near to the Sant’Alvise Church at Misericordia, with live music.
